Description: Frazada Wool Rug (no. 4)
Size: 145 x 155cm approx
Material: Llama Wool
Origin: Cusco Region of Peru

Frazadas are art for your floor, sofa or even your bed. Each piece is unique and at least 30 years old.

Here is some information from the lovely couple who source these for us:  'They are made in villages situated in the Andes in Peru. The Andes mountains cover an extensive area so many different villages make these rugs. However, the most beautiful pieces come from the Cusco region, the old capital of the Inca empire, and this is where these are from.

The drawings or symbols you see on some of the rugs are called "pallais" and are supposed to tell a story from the weaver. They use ancient weaving techniques that have been passed on from generation to generation. Each piece takes up to a month to weave.

Unfortunately as the years pass, there are fewer and fewer artisans making them. When you purchase these products you are supporting native communities in Peru and helping conserve their ancient traditions.'

Their sumptuous texture and weave make a wonderful textile addition for any room. They add colour and whimsey to modern white spaces and are a compliment to an existing colourful interior.

Our rugs are all vintage, collectable pieces and each one is totally unique and completely one of a kind. These Frazada rugs are hand woven works of textile art and may not be perfectly straight.

Note Please: The first 2 images are of this Frazada (rug no. 4).
The other images are a selection of images we have sourced that give the look and feel of Frazada rugs - the rugs in these styled images are not rugs we have for sale.
